Maxim-X Badges & Emblems

I'm often asked about Maxim-X badges and emblems. People usually want to know which tank badge belonged on their bike before it was removed and where they can get a replacement. They also ask whether there are alternatives and where they can be found. Since I get these questions so often, I thought it might be helpful if I added something about badges and emblems to my web site... which is how this page was born.

I think I should start by pointing out that, for the most part, the tank badges and other emblems for the Maxim-X are generally considered "unobtanium"... which means they can't be obtained any longer. From time to time, however, tank badges surface on eBay. Most often they're used but sometimes, with a little luck, NOS (New Old Stock) badges appear too - but they are never cheap. In fact, they're usually outrageously priced and often exceed $100 each.... or more.

For most of us, the typical exorbitant prices of tank badges are prohibitive but if you're the sort of person who can afford it, then it helps to first know what you're looking for.

Depending on the model year and colour, the Maxim-X came equipped from the factory with one of the following tank badges:

1985
Deep Violet Model

(L) Part# 1AA-24161-10-00
(R) Part# 1AA-24162-10-00
1985
Deep Scarlet Model

(L) Part# 1AA-24161-00-00
(R) Part# 1AA-24162-00-00
1986
Sparkle Maroon & New Yamaha Black Models

(L) Part# 1NH-24161-11-00
(R) Part# 1NH-24162-11-00

Unfortunately, as I've already mentioned, these badges are generally considered "unobtanium" so Maxim-X owners are often driven to other alternatives. Nowadays, Yamaha has a common circular badge that is available either in aluminum or plastic and in various colours.
